"Let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we will not give up." Galatians 6:9

The mission of the American Baptist Seminary of the West depends on the generous contributions of alumni/ae, friends, churches, foundations and corporations. There are several ways you can give the American Baptist Seminary of the West including cash/checks, credit card, stock, property, or planned gifts. Gifts may be designated for specific funds or given to our Annual Fund to help with the general expenses of the institution. ABSW is a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit organization. All gifts are tax deductible. If you have questions, or would like to speak with someone regarding your gift, please call the Office of Seminary Advancement at 510-841-1905 ext.225.

Gifts can be designated for:

Annual Fund – gifts to this fund help cover the costs of the institution such as program expenses, faculty and administrative salaries, facility maintenance, publications, insurance and other general operating costs.

Student Scholarship Fund – students who demonstrate financial need may receive a tuition grant up to 60% of the tuition cost. While the seminary has endowed scholarship funds, the financial needs of our students are greater than the funds generated by our endowment. The scholarship fund helps provide additional financial assistance to ABSW students. Endowed scholarships in honor of individuals can be established.

Capital Fund – where the annual fund helps to meet the ongoing care of the campus facilities, the Capital Fund helps the seminary meet special projects. In 2002, ABSW underwent a major capital project to renovate and seismic retrofit Gray Hall and Bratcher Hall, the two campus apartment buildings. Gifts to this fund help to off set the cost of this much needed project.

The Heritage Society – established in 1986 to honor those who have remembered ABSW in their estate gifts. Society members include those who have made the seminary beneficiary of:

  • a life income gift including: pooled income fund; annuity; or charitable remainder trust or unitrust
  • their estate by including the seminary in their will
  • a life insurance policy

If you have included the seminary in your will, or made the seminary beneficiary of a life-income gift or insurance policy, please let ABSW know so you can receive a certificate of membership into The Heritage Society.
