FAQ's for New Students

What are my next steps to enroll in my program?

1.    First, you must complete and return a matriculation form within 14 days of receiving your admission letter, stating your intent to enroll.

2.    Secondly, if you are applying for financial aid, you must complete your financial aid application(s), if you have not done so already (see below for more information).

3.    Thirdly (only for international students), you must submit a completed I-20 request form with supporting documents.  If you are applying for financial aid, you must receive your financial aid award letter before completing the I-20 request form. This is a necessary step in order to continue to apply for your student visa.

4.    Fourthly – for all students: ABSW offers an Orientation session to welcome our new students. All orientation sessions are mandatory as they are designed to introduce you to the life, community, and processes of ABSW and the GTU. Such information will assist you not only in your initial enrollment period but will start you on the road to a successful seminary journey. Please see attached flyer for a detailed schedule. Please confirm your attendance when you return your matriculation form.

When can you expect to hear about your financial aid offer?

By now hopefully you have submitted your FAFSA online (domestic students only) and the supplemental GTU Financial Aid Application for Domestic Students or International Students (choose the one that applies to you) to the GTU Financial Aid Office (FAO). If you have not done so yet, please complete as soon as possible. Once you are accepted into a degree program, the GTU FAO is informed. Upon acceptance and completion of FAFSA (domestic students only) and supplemental GTU forms, the GTU/FAO will process your eligibility. For Fall admits, notices go out approximately 2-3 weeks after your application is completed, and generally not before May 15. For Spring admits, notices go out approximately 2-3 weeks after your application is completed. Your award letter, once ready, can be viewed online. You will have an opportunity to accept your award online via Webadvisor.

Note: You must have a completed admissions file and be enrolled in at least 6 units to receive any financial aid. Students in Certificate Programs or those considered “Unclassified” (i.e. auditors, non-degree students, applicants with incomplete admissions file) are not eligible for Financial Aid.

Can I still apply for ABSW on-campus housing?

Housing is available as long as there are apartment vacancies. If you would like to request on-campus housing or inquire about student housing at our sister-GTU schools, please click here  General housing questions can be directed to the Business Office of ABSW. It is also recommended that students look on the web for additional housing options within Berkley.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the first day of classes?

Generally, new students will not know exactly which classes they will be taking their very first semester until Orientation week. During Orientation, you will be assigned a faculty advisor, receive additional information about registration and purchasing books. If you would like to get a jump start on purchasing books contact the Director of Admissions, who may be able to guide you with core courses that you may register for and how to access the book list. It would be helpful if you also search the online course schedule to see what courses are available athttp://colleague.gtu.edu/  then click on “Searchable Course Schedule.” Choose the appropriate term (semester) and then do a search based on any of the available filters (school, area of study, etc.)

What forms of payment do you accept for tuition and fees?

Credit Card Payments: Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards. The School will charge a flat rate of $35 per transaction for each credit card transaction to defray the costs of credit card payments. Credit card payments can only be made online through Web Advisor, Student Menu, Make a Payment option. ABSW also accepts E-Check (via Web Advisor) OR check or money order via the ABSW Business Office for no additional fee.

Is there a time when the ABSW community gets together for spiritual encouragement and fellowship?

On most Monday evenings during the Fall and Spring semesters, the ABSW community begins their week together with worship and fellowship over a meal. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to join in this important time of community-building. Meals include vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.
