The Ministers Council of the Greater Bay Area invites you to join us for dinner and conversation with Peter Yuichi Clark speaking on:

"PASTORAL LIMINALITY:

Exploring Transitions And Boundaries In Congregational Practice"

As ministers we often meet people in the “liminal” moments of their lives – when they are facing major  life transitions such as the death of a loved one,  getting married or divorced, having a job change or losing a job, becoming parents or watching their children move away, and so forth. We step forward to offer our care and to represent the church as a supportive community. Yet we also need to know how to understand and bless transitions in our lives, and how we can navigate the boundaries in ways that keep us and our congregants safe and healthy. This workshop will explore some of these issues with time for Q&A, discussion, and strategizing to address some of the common dilemmas that face us as spiritual caregivers.

About our presenter:

The Rev. Peter Yuichi Clark currently serves as Manager of Spiritual Care Services at UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco and teaches as Professor of Pastoral Care at the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley. He is an ordained American Baptist minister,  a board certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains, and a certified supervisor in the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education whose career includes ministry in acute-care hospitals, mental health settings, the United States Air Force, and senior care facilities. Peter’s doctoral dissertation focused on the spirituality of aging Japanese Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Chicago. He is married to Tilly Roche Clark, a medical librarian; and he is the father of Adam, a 16-year-old to whom he (literally!) looks up.
